Matthew Johnson

Senior Program Associate, UCP

Matthew Johnson is a Senior Program Associate with Acacia’s Unaccompanied Children Program, a national initiative to increase access to legal information and representation for unaccompanied children facing removal. Matt’s commitment to migrant justice began when he moved to Tucson in 2010 to join humanitarian-aid efforts in the borderlands and support community organizing against the Arizona legislature's racist attacks on immigrant communities and ethnic studies.

Prior to joining the Unaccompanied Children Program in 2021, Matt spent three years providing appellate and federal-court representation to detained noncitizens at the American Friends Service Committee in Newark, New Jersey. Before that, Matt was an Immigrant Justice Corps fellow at Immigration Equality in New York City, representing LGBTQ and HIV-positive noncitizens in removal proceedings. Matt received his JD from the University of Arizona in 2016. He lives in Brooklyn with his pit bull, Jude.
